Surprise Gate Fold Valentine

I  watched an online Stamping Retreat over the last few days. It offered 10 separate videos and pdf tutorials that has spurred my creative mojo, which is what the Demo Team wanted. The ideas were shown with several color, stamp set and designer series paper options.

The first idea I decided to try was the Surprise Gate Fold Card. This card design can be used with dies, punches and any theme. I used the Love You Always Specialty DSP, Love You Always Foil Sheets, Rococo Rose Card Stock and ink, White Card Stock and the Heartfelt Bundle and Meant to Be Bundle.

 Cutting Instructions:

  • Rococo Rose Card Stock: 5 1/2 x 8 1/2,  score at 2 1/8 on one end
  • Rococo Rose Card Stock (hinges): cut 2 @ 1 x 2 1/4, score at 1/2
  • Smokey Slate Foil Sheets {base panels): cut 2 @ 2 x 5 3/8
  • Rococo Rose Specialty DSP (base layer): cut 2 @ 1 7/8 x 5 1/4
  • Basic White Card Stock (inside): 4 x 5-1/4
  • Basic White Card Stock (front) : 2 1/2 x 2 1/2
  • Rococo Rose Foil Sheets (Valentine): cut 2 @ 3 1/2 x 3 1/2

 Assembly

  1. Fold the score line on the card base. Fold the opposite end of the cardstock to meet in the center to create the gate fold
  2. Adhere the Smokey Slate base panels to the gate folds, adhere the DSP on the Smokey Slate panels
  3. Adhere the one hinge facing center but not going over the center on one side of the gate fold. Place the other hinge directly across on the other gate fold.
  4. Die cut two valentines from the largest die in the Meant to Be Bundle, from the Rococo Rose Foil Sheets.
  5. Adhere a Rococo Rose Valentine to the left gate fold panel hinge, making sure it is centered up on the front. Add Tonbow Mono Glue to the right side hinge and put the other valentine on it, making sure it is directly under the left side valentine.
  6. Stamp the dotted heart outline and the Love You Lots in Rococo Rose from Heartfelt Stamp Set on the Basic White square and punch out with the Scalloped Heart Punch, attach to the center of the top valentine with Dimensionals.
  7. Attach the scallop outline die piece to the Basic White inside piece. Stamp the Happy Valentines Day Sentiment in Rococo Rose in the center.

Colori;ng with Blends

I spent great day yesterday using my Stampin' Blends and the Simply Succulents Bundle. I watched a video by another demonstrator who is a Pro at coloring with her Blends. She suggested to start off with a palate of colors that will coordinate with your project. I picked the Oh So Ombre Sale A Bration  Designer Series Paper and also looked at Pintrest pictures of succulents.to help pick colors. As you ca see from my palate no all colors made the cut for final projects. I did not take a photo of my purples palate to share with you.

I mixed my colors up on the succulents, for example on the trio of blooms on the right side. I laid down a layer of Light Soft Seafoam, then covered the center of the images with Light Pretty Peacock, the tips with Light Rich Razzelberrry, then used the Light Soft Seafoam to blend all the colors together. You need to play with the colors, get a feel for what you like and the combinations.

The dies include a beautiful overlay piece that can be inked with the new Blending Brushes to get a fun 2 piece result. The overlay and the sponged result can be used as a layer on a card. I wanted to us the overlay as a mat for Embossing Paste but mine was so bone dry it was beyond the ability to soften. Once my new jar arrives I will show you how it looks.

I also stamped the image on Shimmer White paper, with VersaMark and White Embossing powder. I colored the image with Blending Brushes, I used Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay and Gorgeous Grape.

The die sets includes some nice tuck in pieces, the spikey vine and the globby vine, they add a add on to a card. There are also adorable labels for sentiments.

When you stamp today have some fun playing with the products.
